Lagoa do Fogo & Caldeira Velha Hot Springs

Lagoa do Fogo, which translates roughly into "Lagoon of Fire", is a crater lake at the center of São Miguel Island. This Protected Natural Reserve sits tucked away atop the impressive Pico da Barrosa, far from the whir, hum, and hurry of civilization below. Lagoa do Fogo's crystal-clear turquoise waters are surrounded by tall mountain peaks, lush vegetation, and white sand on all sides.

For those of you reading who still don’t quite know exactly what thermal waters are…we are happy to explain a bit more! Thermal waters are heated by a volcano, and thermal pools are usually fed by nearby springs. Caldeira Velha is the only place where you can see the majestic spring “feeding” the luxurious pools, and there’s nothing better than swimming right up to it and receiving an invigorating but relaxing, natural thermal massage. This is just another authentic experience you’ll be able to have while enjoying the Azores! Besides the waterfall pool, Caldeira Velha also has two smaller pools where the water is a bit hotter.

Tea Tasting at Gorreana Tea Factory

Gorreana, a family-run business since 1883, stands proudly as Europe's oldest tea factory. Nestled on São Miguel's north side, the tea plantation offers a serene escape with a view of the Atlantic Ocean, free from pollution and city noise. With a legacy spanning 130 years, Gorreana's commitment to organic green and black teas, as well as unique infusions, remains unwavering. The factory's resilience during economic downturns is attributed to its low energy costs, driven by an innovative hydroelectric system. Visited by thousands annually, Gorreana welcomes enthusiasts to stroll through its 32-acre plantations, explore the original 1840 Marshall machinery in the museum, and conclude with a complimentary cup of tea boasting a panoramic view of the island's north shore. With around 33 tons of tea produced each year, Gorreana exports its exceptional teas worldwide, contributing to the global appreciation of Azorean heritage.

Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch

From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Cozido Cooking Class

Start your day with a captivating cooking class, unraveling the artistry behind São Miguel Island's culinary gem – the cherished Portuguese stew, Cozido das Furnas. This hearty feast, comprised of a flavorful ensemble featuring cuts of pork, beef, chicken, sausages, and vegetables, is meticulously prepared in underground fumaroles. Situated alongside the scenic Furnas Lake, the hot volcanic soil imparts a distinct flavor to this beloved dish. Once simmered to perfection by the island's natural heat, relish the culinary masterpiece paired harmoniously with a glass of Portuguese red wine, creating a feast that captures the essence of São Miguel's gastronomic heritage.

Terra Nostra Park Garden & Hot Springs

Terra Nostra Park stands as a premier Azorean attraction, captivating visitors with its extraordinary thermal pools and lush botanical gardens. This internationally acclaimed centenary garden spans 12.5 hectares, showcasing impeccably maintained nature scapes adorned with blooming flowers throughout the year. The main thermal pool, 'the tank,' a historical gem dating back to 1770, offers a warm retreat with temperatures between 35ºC and 40ºC. Beyond, two newer-built pools beckon as natural jacuzzis, creating a serene escape within this enchanting oasis.

Please note: It is advised that you bring dark-colored bathing suits, an old towel, and a change of clothes (bathing in the thermal waters is known to stain fabrics). And blondes who dye their hair are cautioned to close pay attention as well, as the waters here contain iron and can stain hair the lighter hair pigments.

Wicker Baskets

While heading to your hotel, take a moment to explore the charming village of Água de Pau and witness a live demonstration of the age-old tradition of crafting local wicker baskets. Engage in this captivating experience to learn about the intricate techniques and cultural significance behind this enduring Azorean craft.
