Day trips, excursions, meals, and city taxes are not included. Check the package page for the full inclusions list or call the Azores Getaways team to confirm.
Yes, round-trip flights are included, along with all domestic flights between Terceira, Faial, and São Miguel Islands. Flight times between islands are short and convenient, allowing you to maximize your time exploring each destination. Exact schedules are confirmed at booking and may vary depending on airline operations and seasonality.
Other departure cities may also be available on request. Contact the Azores Getaways team before booking to discuss departure options. Seat selection, extra baggage, and cabin class upgrades are not included in the package price but can be arranged as paid add-ons, subject to availability.
In the event of a delay or cancellation due to weather conditions, the airline will automatically rebook you on the next available flight. The Azores Getaways team is always available should you need assistance.
Checked luggage is not always included and depends on the airline and fare type included in your package. You can confirm baggage allowances and add luggage during the booking process. Please note that luggage allowances on inter-island flights may differ from your international flights. The Azores Getaways team is always available to help if you prefer to arrange it with us directly.
You fly between islands, so the same rental car cannot travel with you. A rental car will be waiting at the airport each time you land on a new island, allowing you to continue exploring independently and at your own pace.
The standard vehicle included is a small or compact manual car. Automatic transmission is available on request and may involve an additional cost.
To collect your rental car, you’ll need a valid Canadian or US passport and a valid driver’s license. An International Driving Permit is optional but recommended as a backup.
The rental includes basic third-party liability insurance, and depending on the car rental company, a collision damage waiver (CDW) may already be included. Even with CDW, most rentals have a mandatory excess, which is the amount you are responsible for paying out of pocket if the car is damaged. We always recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level available, which eliminates or significantly reduces that excess and covers you across all risks. This can be arranged through the Azores Getaways team when booking with an agent.
There are no toll roads in the Azores. Parking is widely available at most hotels, viewpoints, and attractions across Terceira, Faial, and São Miguel, though it is not always free. In Ponta Delgada, Angra do Heroísmo, and Horta, paid parking zones are usually marked with blue signs.
You drive on the right-hand side, the same as in mainland Portugal. Roads are generally very well maintained, but some rural routes include narrow sections, steep inclines, and hairpin turns. Weather conditions can also change quickly, especially at higher elevations where fog is common, so careful driving is always recommended.
Ride-sharing apps are limited in the Azores. In São Miguel, Bolt operates but availability is still limited outside Ponta Delgada. Taxis are more widely available on all three islands, particularly in Ponta Delgada, Angra do Heroísmo, and Horta, though they can be harder to find in remote areas.
Public buses exist across the islands but are infrequent and do not serve many viewpoints, hiking areas, or natural attractions. If you prefer not to drive on a particular day, the Azores Getaways team can suggest easier routes or help arrange optional guided experiences with transportation included.
This is an independent fly-and-drive package. The itinerary provided is a set of suggestions rather than a fixed programme, giving you the flexibility to explore each island at your own pace.
Optional guided experiences can easily be added before travel or during the booking process, including whale watching, canyoning, hiking tours, thermal spa experiences, food tours, boat trips, and more. Contact the Azores Getaways team and we’ll help build the perfect experience for your trip.
The package includes hotels ranging from 3 to 5 stars across Terceira, Faial, and São Miguel Islands. In São Miguel, options range from boutique properties to well-known international brands and oceanfront resorts. In Terceira, hotels are located in or close to Angra do Heroísmo, while in Faial, accommodations are typically based in or near the city of Horta.
Hotels are not always located directly in the city center, so some light walking or short drives may be needed depending on the property selected. Exact hotel options are shown when you click a date in the booking calendar and proceed to the next booking step.
Upgrade and budget-friendly options may also be available on request. Contact the Azores Getaways team to discuss preferences before booking.
Most hotels included in this package are likely to offer on-site parking, though availability and fees vary by property. You can confirm parking details during the booking process or by contacting the Azores Getaways team before travel.
City taxes are not included in the package price and must be paid directly at the hotels upon arrival or checkout. The amount varies depending on the island, municipality, and hotel category, and is subject to change.
Yes. Daily breakfast is included at all hotels throughout your stay.
Lunches and dinners are not included, giving you the freedom to discover local restaurants and authentic Azorean cuisine at your own pace. On Terceira, don’t miss the island’s famous “alcatra,” a traditional beef dish slow-cooked in clay pots. In Furnas on São Miguel, “cozido” is cooked underground using volcanic heat for several hours. In Faial, fresh seafood and Atlantic fish dishes are local favorites worth trying.
Yes to all three. The Azores Getaways team can help you extend your stay, include additional islands, add optional experiences, or customize your itinerary to better suit your travel style. Additional costs may apply depending on the changes requested.
Solo travelers are also welcome. Package pricing is generally based on two travelers sharing a room, so a single supplement applies for solo occupancy. Contact the team directly and we'll make it easy. You can also check solo pricing by changing the number of guests from 2 to 1 in the booking calendar before clicking See Dates and Prices.
The Azores are part of Portugal and the European Union. Canadian and US passport holders do not currently require a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. The Azores are considered one of Europe’s safest travel destinations, with low crime rates, political stability, and welcoming local communities. We still recommend checking your government’s official travel advisory before departure.
The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your departure date. Flights are generally non-refundable once issued, although the Azores Getaways team will always check with the airline to explore any available options.
Travel insurance with cancellation coverage is strongly recommended. This summary does not replace the complete booking terms and conditions, which should always be reviewed before confirming your reservation.
For general support during office hours, contact the Azores Getaways team at our regular number. Support is available every day from 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM Azores Time. Outside office hours, an emergency number is provided in your trip documents. For local emergencies in the Azores, dial 112.
