São Miguel: Nature & Hiking Tour

This hiking experience includes round-trip flights, a 4 or 5-star hotel in downtown Ponta Delgada, daily breakfast, airport transfers, 4 guided hikes, a Furnas Night Thermal Bath and Dinner, and a Fado dinner show.

• Lagoa do Fogo Hike: A 6.8-mile circular trail through endemic forest and volcanic landscapes, ending at the stunning crater lake of Lagoa do Fogo
• Sete Cidades Hike: A 7.3-mile linear trail exploring the Sete Cidades caldera, passing hidden lakes and culminating at the Boca do Inferno viewpoint.
• Furnas Night Thermal Bath & Dinner: An evening guided tour to the Furnas geothermal valley, including a soak at the thermal pools of Poça da Dona Beija and a traditional dinner at a local restaurant.
• Moinho do Félix Hike: A 3.4-mile circular trail through the Ribeira Funda valley, passing waterfalls and old water mills with a picnic lunch included and a swim at the base of the falls.
• Sanguinho Hike: A 3.4-mile circular trail from the village of Faial da Terra to the Salto do Prego waterfall, passing through endemic forest, a restored historic village, and ending with a scenic coastal drive back to Ponta Delgada.
• Fado Dinner Show: A traditional Portuguese dinner paired with live Fado music in Ponta Delgada, including appetizers, a main course of Bacalhau na Telha, and dessert. Vegetarian and alternative options available on request.

The hikes are rated moderate. All four are medium difficulty: Lagoa do Fogo is the longest, about 7.4 mi / 12 km over a full day with a steep descent; Serra Devassa and Sete Cidades is about 3 mi / 4.9 km in around 4 hours; Moinho do Félix and Sanguinho are each about 3.4 mi / 5.5 km. Paths are uneven and can be muddy. You do not need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable walking for several hours. Guides adapt the pace to the group and the weather.

The four hikes and the Furnas night thermal bath run in groups of up to 15 people, with hotel pick-up and drop-off for hotels in the city of Ponta Delgada. If you stay outside Ponta Delgada, you are given a meeting point instead. The fado dinner has no pick-up: the meeting point is Rua Diário dos Açores 8, Ponta Delgada, a short walk from downtown hotels, with up to 55 guests in the restaurant.

Daily breakfast is included at your hotel. The Lagoa do Fogo and Sanguinho hikes include a picnic lunch (tell us in advance about any food allergy or dietary need). The Furnas night thermal bath includes dinner in Furnas, and the fado evening includes dinner; drinks at the fado dinner are not included. Other meals are on your own, and the Azores Getaways team can suggest restaurants.
