The Azores Getaways Two Weeks in the Azores: Terceira, Faial & São Miguel with Car package includes round-trip flights, 14 nights in hotels (4 on Terceira, 4 on Faial, 6 on São Miguel), a rental car on each island picked up and returned at the airport, all inter-island flights (Terceira to Faial approximately 35 minutes, Faial to São Miguel approximately 1 hour), a guided full-day tour of Pico with ferry tickets, lunch and hotel pick-up in central Horta, and all taxes and fees related to the booking.

Other meals and tours, airport transfers and city taxes are not included.

Yes, round-trip flights are included. The package price varies depending on your departure airport. Other departure cities are available on request. Contact the Azores Getaways team before booking to discuss departure options. Checked luggage is not always included and depends on the airline and fare type. Confirm what is included and add luggage during the booking process. Seat selection and cabin class upgrades can be arranged as paid add-ons, subject to availability.

One rental car per island. Since you fly between the three islands, you cannot take the same car with you. You pick up the car at Terceira Airport on arrival and return it before your inter-island flight to Faial. On Faial, you pick up a second car at Horta Airport and return it before flying to São Miguel. On São Miguel, you pick up a third car at Ponta Delgada Airport and return it on departure day.

Yes, traffic drives on the right in the Azores, the same as mainland Portugal and continental Europe. Roads are generally well maintained on all three islands. On Terceira and Faial, some routes toward viewpoints and the interior can be narrow and winding. On Faial specifically, the road to Capelinhos and the rim of the Caldeira involves steep and narrow sections. A small compact car handles these routes well. Most visitors find driving in the Azores straightforward.

A rental car is included on each island for the full duration of your stay on that island. The standard vehicle is a compact manual car. Automatic transmission is available on request at an additional cost. On Faial, the island is smaller and the fleet is more limited, so automatic availability is more restricted. Request automatic early if needed. You will need a valid passport and driver's license at pickup. There are no toll roads anywhere in the Azores.

The rental car on each island includes basic third-party liability insurance. Depending on the rental company, a collision damage waiver (CDW) may already be included, but most rentals still carry a mandatory excess. We always recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level available at pickup. This can be arranged through the Azores Getaways team when booking.

Every hotel in this package has parking on site or nearby, chosen with a self-drive trip in mind. Parking is not always free: costs are not included in the package price and vary by hotel. If free parking is a priority for you, contact the Azores Getaways team when booking and we will do our best to select hotels with free parking on each island.

Inter-island flights in the Azores operate on smaller aircraft with stricter baggage allowances than your transatlantic flight. The allowances on the Terceira to Faial and Faial to São Miguel flights are typically lower than your main flights. Contact the Azores Getaways team before booking to confirm the exact allowances for both inter-island legs and pack accordingly.

The rental car is essential on all three islands. Taxis are available in the main towns but are limited in rural areas and require a call to the local taxi central. Public buses exist but are infrequent and do not serve most attractions. On Terceira, Angra do Heroísmo is walkable, but the rest of the island requires a car. On Faial, Horta is compact, but Capelinhos and the Caldeira require driving. On São Miguel, Sete Cidades, Furnas, and Lagoa do Fogo all require a car.

Yes. A guided full-day tour of Pico is included on your second day on Faial, from about 10:15 AM to 6:30 PM. It includes the ferry tickets, transport, a local guide and lunch, with stops at the UNESCO-listed vineyards, Lajes do Pico and the Whalers' Museum, Lagoa do Capitão and Arcos do Cachorro.

Hotel pick-up is included at hotels in the center of Horta. If you are staying outside the center, an extra cost applies.

São Jorge is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes by ferry from Horta. If you would like to add it, or stay overnight on Pico, contact the Azores Getaways team. Additional costs apply.

This package includes hotel stays on all three islands: 4 nights on Terceira, 4 nights on Faial and 6 nights on São Miguel. Depending on the hotel you select, you can stay in the main towns, such as Angra do Heroísmo, Horta and Ponta Delgada, or in a quieter setting outside the center, which works well when you have a car.

Meals are not included, except for lunch on the guided day trip to Pico. Many of the hotels and room types in this package already include breakfast, but some rooms do not. Check the room details when you click a date in the booking calendar: where breakfast is not included, it can be added during the booking process, when available, or prioritized on request with the Azores Getaways team. Each island has its own food culture worth exploring: Terceira is known for its alcatra beef stew, Pico for its Verdelho wine and fresh seafood, and São Miguel for its cozido das Furnas, slow-cooked in volcanic ground.

Yes to all three. The Azores Getaways team can add nights on any island, include Pico, São Jorge, or other Azores islands as overnight stays, or adjust the itinerary. If you are travelling solo, a single supplement applies. You can check solo pricing by changing the number of guests from 2 to 1 in the booking calendar before clicking See Dates and Prices. All three islands can be visited year-round. Spring (April to June) offers mild temperatures around 17°C to 20°C (63°F to 68°F), lush green landscapes, and ideal driving conditions. Summer (July to August) reaches 22°C to 25°C (72°F to 77°F), the warmest and sunniest period, best for whale watching and natural pools. Autumn (September to October) stays warm at 20°C to 23°C (68°F to 73°F), quieter and excellent value. Winter (November to March) averages 14°C to 17°C (57°F to 63°F), the quietest and most affordable period.

Local city or municipal tourist taxes are not included in the package price.

If applicable, these charges are paid directly to the hotel, usually at check-in or check-out. The amount can vary depending on the municipality, accommodation, and local regulations.

The Azores are part of Portugal, a safe and well-visited destination with no active conflicts. US and Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. ETIAS is not yet mandatory. When it becomes mandatory, the Azores Getaways team will notify you in advance. The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your travel date. Airfare is non-refundable from the moment it is issued. Travel insurance with cancellation cover is strongly recommended.
