The Azores Getaways São Miguel package includes round-trip flights, 6 nights of hotel accommodation on São Miguel Island, daily breakfast, one rental car, and all taxes and fees related to the booking. Guided tours, lunches, dinners, parking fees, and city taxes are not included.

Yes, round-trip flights are included. Other departure cities are available on the package page, and additional options are available on request. Seat selection, extra baggage, and cabin class upgrades are not included in the package price but can be arranged as paid add-ons, subject to availability.

Checked luggage is not always included and depends on the airline and fare type selected for your package. You can confirm baggage allowances and add luggage during the booking process. The Azores Getaways team is also available to help arrange this directly if preferred.

A rental car is included for your stay on São Miguel Island and will be available for pickup upon arrival. The standard vehicle is usually a small or compact manual car. Automatic transmission may be available on request, sometimes at an additional cost. You'll need a valid Canadian or US passport and driver's license at pickup. An International Driving Permit is optional but recommended as a backup.

The rental includes basic third-party liability insurance, and depending on the car rental company, a collision damage waiver (CDW) may already be included. Even with CDW, most rentals have a mandatory excess, which is the amount you are responsible for paying out of pocket if the car is damaged. We always recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level available, which eliminates or significantly reduces that excess and covers you across all risks. This can be arranged through the Azores Getaways team when booking with an agent.

There are no toll roads in the Azores. Parking is widely available at most hotels, viewpoints, and attractions, though it is not always free. In Ponta Delgada, paid parking zones are marked with blue signs. You drive on the right-hand side, the same as in mainland Portugal. Roads are generally well-maintained, though some rural routes may include narrow sections and sharp turns. Fog can appear quickly at higher elevations, so extra caution is recommended when driving in mountain areas.

Ride-sharing apps are limited in the Azores, although Bolt operates in São Miguel on a limited basis. Taxis are more widely available around Ponta Delgada and nearby towns but may be harder to find in remote areas. Public buses exist across the island, though schedules can be infrequent and many natural attractions are not easily accessible by public transport. If you prefer not to drive on a specific day, the Azores Getaways team can suggest alternative routes or help arrange a guided experience with transportation included.

This is an independent fly-and-drive package. The day-by-day itinerary is a set of suggestions, not a fixed programme, allowing you to explore São Miguel at your own pace. Daily breakfast is included throughout your stay. Lunches and dinners are not included, giving you the freedom to discover local restaurants and authentic Azorean cuisine. São Miguel is famous for specialties such as Cozido das Furnas, slowly cooked underground using volcanic heat, as well as fresh seafood, local cheeses, and tropical fruits grown on the island.

The Azores are part of Portugal and the European Union. Canadian and US passport holders do not currently need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. The Azores are a stable and safe destination with no active conflicts, not affected by the current conflicts in Europe or elsewhere. The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your travel date. Airfare is non-refundable from the moment it is issued, but the Azores Getaways team will always check with the airline to explore options.
