Welcome to Pico Island, the Azores’ wine country, where majestic Pico Mountain dominates the skyline with breathtaking views! Today's itinerary is designed for a smooth transition into island life, allowing you to unwind after your flights and discover the charming town of Madalena, the main city hub of Pico.
- Settling In: Upon arrival, check into your accommodation and unpack at your own pace. Take some time to relax and refresh after your journey. Step onto your balcony or explore your surroundings, already rewarded with panoramic views of the awe-inspiring Pico Mountain.
- A Touch of History: If you're feeling energized, head into the heart of Madalena. Visit the Santa Maria da Madalena Church, a beautiful 17th-century structure with a distinctive white facade. Step inside to admire the ornate altarpieces and religious artifacts.
- Relaxation in Nature: Head to the Criação Velha Natural Pools, a series of natural pools formed by volcanic rock formations along the island's western coast. Take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear ocean waters and enjoy the stunning scenery.

Starting from Madalena, your journey begins by heading to the charming parish of São Mateus, where you will visit the Sanctuary of "Bom Jesus Milagroso." Next, explore the Regional Crafts House, where you'll marvel at intricate works made from fish scales, tooth and whalebone, lace, and embroidery—true treasures of the island’s artisans.
Indulge in a tasting of the famous Pico Island cheese at a traditional dairy, followed by a delicious lunch featuring local dishes at a nearby restaurant. Afterward, we'll head to Lajes do Pico, known as “Vila Baleeira” (Whaling Village), where you will visit the fascinating Whaling Museum* and learn about the island's rich maritime heritage.
We’ll then cross the island to the north side, visiting the serene Captain's Lagoon. In São Roque, take a short break at the island’s commercial pier before we continue our scenic drive through the expansive lava fields of “Mistério das Bandeiras.”
The tour concludes with a visit to "Cachorro dos Arcos," where you'll witness impressive rock formations, including tunnels and caves carved by nature. We’ll return to Madalena by 5:00 PM.

- República Garden: Seek a moment of tranquility at the República Garden (Jardim da República).

The tour begins in Velas, with a stop at the Pico da Velha viewpoint for stunning views of Rosais Parish and the sea channel between Pico, São Jorge, and Faial Islands. Next, we’ll visit Sete Fontes Natural Park and continue through the parishes of Toledo, Santo António, and Norte Grande, with a stop at the Norte Grande viewpoint, offering vistas of the North Coast, Fajã dos Cubres, and Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo.
A visit to the Cheese Production Cooperative provides an optional tasting of São Jorge cheese. After lunch in Calheta village, there are optional visits to the Francisco Lacerda Museum and São Jorge Museum. The journey then includes stops at the Calheta viewpoint and Fajã dos Vimes, where you can taste the island’s unique coffee.
We continue through Serra do Topo with stops at Pedras Brancas and Fajã de São João viewpoints. The route passes São Tomé, Santo Antão, and Vila do Topo, with a stop at Pontinha do Topo for views of Topo Islet, Terceira, and Graciosa Islands. On the return, enjoy views from the Manadas viewpoint, Santa Barbara Church, Urzelina’s church tower, and São Pedro viewpoint before ending back in Velas.

It’s time to explore Ponta Delgada, the main city, that beckons not only with its charming streets and vibrant atmosphere but also with its status as the economic heart of the archipelago. Ponta Delgada evokes all the charms of Europe with cobbled streets, sidewalk cafes, and a thriving culinary scene.

Begin with a scenic drive to the Vista do Rei viewpoint for breathtaking views of Sete Cidades' blue and green lakes. Next, head to the mountains for panoramic views of Lagoa do Fogo. You can opt for a relaxing dip at Caldeira Velha, a natural park with warm waterfalls (optional).
The tour continues to the Santa Iria viewpoint with stunning views of the rugged north coast. Afterward, we’ll visit Gorreana Tea Plantation for a tour and tasting of locally grown black and green tea.
We’ll stop at Pico do Ferro viewpoint for a look over Furnas Valley, then visit Furnas village to see volcanic fumaroles. For lunch, enjoy the famous Cozido das Furnas, a traditional stew cooked underground by volcanic heat, followed by a stop at Furnas Lake to see where the meal is prepared.
On the return to Ponta Delgada, we’ll travel along the south coast, stopping at Vila Franca do Campo and the Nossa Senhora da Paz Chapel for a final view of the famous Islet of Vila Franca.
