The three full-day tours on Terceira and São Miguel are small group tours with a maximum of 8 to 16 participants. If you prefer a private experience on any tour, contact the Azores Getaways team before booking and we will arrange alternatives at an additional cost.
All 4 tours are led by expert local guides and include hotel pickup and drop-off. For the Terceira tours, pickup is at your hotel in Angra do Heroísmo. For the São Miguel tours, pickup is within Ponta Delgada. All hotels in this package are centrally located in Angra do Heroísmo and Ponta Delgada, so pickup logistics are straightforward. Tour timings and exact pickup times are confirmed in your trip documents before departure.
The Angra do Heroísmo walking tour involves light walking on cobbled streets for approximately 4 hours and is suitable for most fitness levels. The Best of Terceira full-day tour and both Sao Miguel tours involve moderate walking at several viewpoints and natural sites. None of the tours involve strenuous hiking. If you have mobility concerns or would like to replace a tour, contact the Azores Getaways team before departure and we will find the best alternative for your needs.
Lunch is included on the 3 full-day tours: the Best of Terceira Island tour, the Furnas tour, and the Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo tour. Lunch is not included on the Angra do Heroísmo walking tour, which runs from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. All other meals throughout the package are not included.
After 3 nights on Terceira, a transfer takes you from your hotel to Lajes Airport. You board a short inter-island flight to São Miguel, approximately 40 minutes. On arrival at São Miguel Airport, a transfer takes you to your hotel in Ponta Delgada. All transfers between hotels and airports on both islands are included. The Azores Getaways team confirms all timings and logistics before your departure.
Inter-island flights in the Azores operate on smaller aircraft with stricter baggage allowances than your transatlantic flight. The allowance on the Terceira to São Miguel flight is typically lower than your main flight. Contact the Azores Getaways team before booking to confirm the exact allowance for your inter-island flight and pack accordingly.
A rental car is not included in this package. All 4 tours include hotel pickup so no car is needed for the included experiences. For free time between tours, both Angra do Heroísmo and Ponta Delgada are compact and walkable. There is very limited Uber® or ride-sharing service in the Azores (São Miguel only). Taxis are available in the main towns and in rural areas you'll need to call to get one. A rental car can be arranged as a paid add-on.
The package includes hotels in the city center of Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira and centrally located hotels in Ponta Delgada on São Miguel. All properties are within easy walking distance of the main sights and tour pickup points. The package price varies depending on the hotel selected. Upgrades to higher category properties are available on request. Exact options are shown when you click a date in the booking calendar. Yes. Popular add-ons from Terceira include a boat tour to Ilhéus das Cabras, a dairy farm visit, and a wood oven cooking experience with a local family. From São Miguel, popular add-ons include a whale watching catamaran, a waterfall and tea plantation hiking tour, and a Fado dinner. Contact the Azores Getaways team when booking and we will include the right options in your itinerary.
The Azores are part of Portugal, a safe and well-visited destination with no active conflicts and not affected by the current conflicts in Europe or elsewhere. US and Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. ETIAS is not yet mandatory. When it becomes mandatory, the Azores Getaways team will notify you in advance.
