São Miguel: Highlights Tour

Your package includes round-trip flights, 6 nights' accommodation in Ponta Delgada with daily breakfast, airport transfers on arrival and departure, and three guided tours (Sete Cidades, Furnas with lunch, and Lagoa do Fogo).

You'll experience three of São Miguel's most iconic landscapes on guided van tours. The half-day Sete Cidades tour explores the legendary twin lakes and volcanic crater. The full-day Furnas tour includes lunch, thermal springs, botanical gardens, and traditional cozido cooked underground. The half-day Lagoa do Fogo tour visits this pristine crater lake with panoramic coastal viewpoints.

You'll stay in centrally-located Ponta Delgada for all 6 nights with daily breakfast included. This positioning gives you easy access to restaurants, shops, nightlife, and waterfront promenades while serving as a convenient base for your included tours.

All three tours (Sete Cidades, Furnas and Lagoa do Fogo) run in small groups of up to 12 people. Hotel pickup and drop-off in Ponta Delgada are included on every tour, so you simply meet your guide at your hotel at the scheduled time.

Only breakfast is included daily at your hotel. The full-day Furnas tour includes a traditional Azorean lunch featuring cozido das Furnas, a stew cooked underground using volcanic heat. All other meals are on your own, giving you freedom to explore Ponta Delgada's diverse dining scene, from fresh seafood restaurants to traditional tascas and cafes throughout your stay.

For the three included tours, no car is needed as hotel pickup is included. In Ponta Delgada, the city center is compact and walkable. Uber® has limited availability in the Azores, and public buses are infrequent and do not serve most attractions. For the two free days, a rental car or more guided tours are the best option. Days 5 and 6 are yours to explore independently. Popular options include whale watching tours, visiting Nordeste's stunning viewpoints and waterfalls, relaxing at Ferraria thermal pools, exploring Ribeira Grande's beaches, hiking to Salto do Prego waterfall, or enjoying Ponta Delgada's restaurants and shops. We can arrange additional tours, activities, or rental cars for these days.

The three included tours cover Sete Cidades, Furnas, and Lagoa do Fogo, while free days let you explore Ponta Delgada and add activities based on your interests. 

Yes, round-trip flights are included. The package price varies depending on your departure airport. Other departure cities are available on request. Contact the Azores Getaways team before booking to discuss departure options. Checked luggage is not always included and depends on the airline and fare type. Confirm what is included and add luggage during the booking process. Seat selection and cabin class upgrades can be arranged as paid add-ons, subject to availability.

São Miguel can be visited year-round. Spring (April to June) offers mild temperatures around 18°C to 22°C (64°F to 72°F), lush green landscapes, and ideal conditions for the included tours. Summer (July to August) reaches 24°C to 26°C (75°F to 79°F), warmest and busiest, with the best conditions for whale watching and outdoor activities. Autumn (September to October) stays warm at around 20°C to 24°C (68°F to 75°F), quieter and excellent value. Winter (November to March) averages 15°C to 17°C (59°F to 63°F), the quietest period, more affordable, and the thermal pools at Furnas feel especially good in the cold.

The Azores are part of Portugal, consistently ranked as one of the safest countries in Europe for travelers, with no active conflicts and not affected by the current conflicts in Europe or elsewhere. US and Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. ETIAS is not yet mandatory. When it becomes mandatory, the Azores Getaways team will notify you in advance.

The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your travel date. Airfare is non-refundable from the moment it is issued.
