This 6-night stay is entirely at Herdade do Ananás, about 1.8 miles from central Ponta Delgada, surrounded by working greenhouses that have grown the Ananás dos Açores, a protected designation of origin, since 1958. A guided tour covers the process, and one greenhouse holds a jacuzzi built right into the space where the pineapples grow. Breakfast, a welcome drink, and a rental car are included, so the rest of the island is yours to explore at your own pace.

Welcome to Herdade do Ananás! Pick up your rental car on arrival.
Suggestion for the day: Downtown Ponta Delgada
Ponta Delgada is the economic heart of the Azores archipelago, a compact city of cobblestone streets, sidewalk cafes, and a thriving food scene, about a 6-minute drive from the property.

Your guided tour walks through the working greenhouses right on the property, which have produced fruit here since 1958. You'll learn how young plants go through a smoke operation at 4 to 6 months old, sealed in smoke for a week at 40°C (104°F) to trigger uniform flowering, before the fruit is ready 18 to 24 months later.
Please note: this tour is scheduled directly with the hotel, on arrival day or any other day of your stay. This schedule is an estimate only. Exact timing for each suggestion may vary based on availability and your preferences.
Suggestion for the rest of the day: Sete Cidades, Mosteiros & Ferraria
Sete Cidades is a village inside a volcanic crater, one of the most recognizable images of the Azores, centered on a twin-lake complex. Continuing west, Mosteiros is known for its coastal sunsets, and Ferraria's ocean thermal baths, best enjoyed at low tide when warm spring water mixes with the Atlantic, round out the day.

São Miguel Island
Suggestion for the day: Lagoa do Fogo & The North Coast
Lagoa do Fogo is a crater lake reserve at the center of the island, best visited on a clear day; check the forecast before heading up. Caldeira Velha, a natural monument known for its thermal pools and lush vegetation, sits nearby. Ribeira Grande, a town on the island's north coast, has a historic center and Santa Bárbara Beach, known for its black sand.

São Miguel Island
Suggestion for the day: Geothermal Furnas
Furnas Valley is the center of São Miguel's geothermal activity, with active volcanic sites and boiling calderas. Don't Miss:
Lagoa das Furnas: hiking trails around the lake, plus the Neo-Gothic Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitórias.
Cozido das Furnas: a Portuguese stew cooked underground in volcanic-heated fumaroles, a local tradition worth trying for lunch.
Caldeiras das Furnas: close to 30 bubbling calderas and fumaroles in the center of town.
Terra Nostra Park: thermal pools and botanical gardens, one of the Azores' main attractions.
Poça da Dona Beija: six natural thermal pools at different temperatures.
Gorreana Tea Plantation: Europe's oldest working tea farm, established in 1883.

São Miguel's northeast region is quieter than the rest of the island, with viewpoints, waterfalls, and small villages.

Ponta da Madrugada Viewpoint: a good spot for sunrise
Arnel Lighthouse: the oldest lighthouse in the Azores
Ribeira dos Caldeirões Natural Park: waterfalls, old watermills, and walking trails

Suggestion for the day: Whale and Dolphin Watching & Souvenir Shopping
Whale & Dolphin Watching: the Azores sit in the path of over 20 species of whales and dolphins, among the largest concentrations in the world. Resident species like sperm whales, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and Risso's dolphins are present year-round, with migratory species like blue whales, humpback whales, and pilot whales passing through at different times of year. This excursion is optional and not included in the package price, contact the Azores Getaways team to add it.
Souvenir Shopping: Azorean tea, pineapple products, wickerwork, Bordado dos Açores embroidery, ceramics, wine, and liqueurs are all worth looking for before you leave.
