Lagoa do Fogo Hike (9 AM - 3 PM)

This trail begins on a dirt path through woods featuring Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica), Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), Australian Cheesewood (Pittosporum undulatum), Wild Kahili Ginger (Hedychium gardnerianum), New Zealand Flax (Phormium tenax), and numerous endemic plants.

The trail then follows the levada for about 2 km until you reach a wider area with large slopes on both sides leading to the margins of Lagoa do Fogo. During the ascent, there are several spots where you can enjoy magnificent views of Vila Franca do Campo, its islet, and the hills on the south side of the island.

The return to the starting point is via a path that traverses an area covered in endemic vegetation, leading into pasturelands at lower altitudes, and then arriving back near the initial point. After finishing the walking tour, we return to Ponta Delgada.

The trail culminates at the breathtaking Salto do Prego waterfall, passing a restored charming village – a reminder of the island's emigration history in the 60s and 70s. Once you reach Salto do Prego waterfall, feel free to grab your picnic lunch or go for a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters!

The hike initially ascends to Sanguinho, a place named after the abundant local endemic Frangula azorica. The path, offering spectacular views over the parish and the ocean, continues through a forest populated with Japanese Cedar and other species like Ginger lilies and Australian Cheesewood. After enjoying the serene environment at Salto do Prego, the return journey follows a stream flowing from the waterfall back to Faial da Terra, through vibrant vegetation.
