Classified as trail PR1SJO, it offers an optional alternative via the Trilho dos Inchadinhos (“Trail of the Inches”) for those looking for a more demanding route through untouched natural terrain.
Though officially marked as moderate, the full-day experience offers plenty of breaks and is suitable for most active hikers. Along the way, you’ll encounter rich endemic vegetation, diverse birdlife, and the peaceful Lagoa da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, known for its beauty and tranquility — and also for its waves, perfect for bodyboarding and surfing.
Highlights include a local cheese tasting, a picnic lunch surrounded by nature, and a chance to cool off in fresh mountain streams. The day wraps up with a visit to Fajã do Ouvidor and a swim or snorkeling session in the natural pools of Poça Simão Dias before heading back to Vila das Velas.
